A Slovakian delegation is presently in Malta to
observe the operations of the National Euro Changeover Campaign (NECC), just
over four months before the island joins the eurozone. Slovakia is expected
to join the eurozone in January 2009, granted that it fulfills the necessary
criteria to adopt the European currency.
Last May, the Cypriot euro changeover
committee also visited Malta
to learn more about the local campaign, soon after both states were given the go
ahead to join the European currency by the European Commission.
The Commission praised Malta’s efforts
in preparing for the changeover through the NECC.
A programme was scheduled for the visitors
on Monday, where the Slovakian delegation was able to observe Malta’s final euro adoption preparations.
