Malta’s entry within the Schengen zone was officially approved following an EU ministerial decision on Thursday.

Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic are part of this latest enlargement.

Sea and land border controls between the current 15 Schengen area nations plus Malta and the other eight countries, will end after midnight on December 20. Air travel however is to be opened up from March 30.
