Louis Grech has been voted the best Maltese Member of the
European Parliament (MEP) for the year 2006 by the European League of Geneva ,
an international think-tank based in
Geneva.
This was announced recently in ‘New Europe’, the European
Weekly publication. The European League of Geneva (Euroleague) is a private
non-profit organisation which was set up in 2004 with the purpose of promoting
greater political and economic development within the European Union and to
further advance the ideals of the European Union.
The Committee of the European League is composed of a Board
of Trustees comprised of former officials who have worked in International
Government organisations such as the United Nations, retired diplomats and
lawyers who have worked extensively in the field of international
affairs.
Nicolas Kaloy, a former Greek international diplomat and the Chairman of
the European League said that '' the factors taken into account by the European
League in deciding the best MEP's from the different countries in Europe were
the overall work activity of the MEP, the contribution that has been made to
his/her country, as well as his/her dedication to the ideals of the European
Union in the establishment of peace, democracy and co-operation in Europe''.
Louis Grech, a Member Party of European Socialists (PES),
has been in the European Parliament since 2004 and currently serves on the
Committee on Budgets (COBU) and the Committee on Regional Development.
He is also the Vice-President of the European Parliament
Delegation for relations with the
Korean
Peninsula and Member of
the European Parliament Delegation to the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary
Assembly.
