EU Justice and Home Affairs Ministers have approved the draft of an Immigration Pact as proposed by the French Presidency in a meeting in Brussels on Thursday afternoon.

The text also refers to the introduction of burden-sharing mechanisms as had been requested by the Maltese government.

The draft will now have to be approved by heads of state in a European Council meeting in October for which Prime Minister Gonzi is expected to attend.
