United Kingdom (UK) Post Office figures released this week on currency exchange show that demand for the Maltese Lira is among fastest growing. The Post Office said that overall summer currency sales were almost double last year's level, hinting at Britons’ travel trends to the island.

Sales for the Lira rose 16.5%, ranking fourth behind the Polish Zloty, the Hong Kong dollar and the Bulgairan Lev.   Demand for Hong Kong and Bulgaria’s currencies grew by 32% and 20.5% respectively, while sales for the Polish Zloty were found to be the fastest growing, rising 65.5% between the 28th March and the 29th August.

The Post Office said overall summer currency sales were almost double last year's level.

According to TravelMole, Post Office head of travel services John Howells said: "Low cost flights are opening up parts of Europe previously unseen by many UK
tourists.”
