Forty-eight per cent of exhibitors at this year's Trade Fair at the new MFCC venue said their sales have fared worse than last year, a GRTU survey has revealed. Thirty-six per cent of exhibitors said their sales remained the same while only 16 per cent had better sales.
Asked for reasons behind lower sales, 20 per cent said people had less money in their pockets, 16 per cent said that the new Ta' Qali venue did not attract customers. Other reasons given included competition, lower attendance than usual and other methods of purchasing goods among others.
On the other hand, reasons for better sales included more advertisement, more demand for products and less competition in the same line of business than last year.
Thirty-seven per cent of exhibitors thought the new MFCC centre is better than Naxxar, 20 per cent the same and a relative majority (43 per cent) worse than Naxxar.
When asked whether they will participate in next year's Trade Fair, 48 per cent of exhibitors said 'Maybe', 40 per cent said 'Yes', three per cent said 'No' and nine per cent Other.
In order for the Trade Fair to be improved, 35 per cent said there needs to be better event management and 23 per cent demanded a bigger area. Other responses included better entertainment and catering services, more cleanliness and more attention to detail.
