The HSBC Cares for Children Fund, main sponsor of Puttinu Cares, the voluntary organisation working for children suffering from cancer, has recently topped up its donation with a further €10,000 to bring the total to €62,200 over the past seven years.
Puttinu Cares is currently raising funds to purchase three flats for children receiving treatment for cancer in the UK and their accompanying families.
The Puttinu Cares Children’s Cancer Support Group has recently organised a Football Marathon to collect money for this initiative. So far, some €230,000 have been donated by the public and organisations that took part in the fund-raising events sparked off during the marathon. Some €1.2 million are needed for the purchase of the three residences.
HSBC is also supporting Puttinu Cares for the purchase of the three flats in London through preferential loan conditions and HSBC’s strong network in the UK.
“Our intention is to have the three apartments ready for our young patients and their carers to move into by the end of July,” said Dr Victor Calvagna, Chairperson of the Puttinu Cares Children’s Cancer Support Group. “We express our gratitude to the public and organisations like HSBC for the support they have been lending us to help us realise this dream to make suffering children’s lives easier.”
“It is the aim of the HSBC Cares for Children Fund (HCCF) to give children afflicted by social or health problems a better quality of life,” said Catherine Gonzi, Chairperson of the Fund. “These children deserve all our generosity and goodwill to look forward to a brighter future, as is their right.”
