The
seventh edition of the Malta Football Awards will be held on Friday 6th June at
the Corinthia Palace Hotel Attard. This edition will be supported by a number
of new sponsors who join others who have already supported the event in past
years. For the third consecutive edition, the event will be carrying the name
of Melita Digital Malta Football Awards.
Addressing
a press conference, the Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the Melita
Digital Malta Football Awards said that the awards which have now become
synonymous with the gala event will be presented once again but in order to
keep with the tradition of introducing one or more new awards in every edition,
Events Services launched a new award - the Best Second Division Player together
with the Special Award for the Career.
Parliamentary
Secretary for Youth and Sport Mr Clyde Puli also addressed the press
conference. He said that the fact that the Malta Football Awards have now
entered the seventh edition confirm how year after year, this event is gaining
more popularity and this was only thanks to the organisers and those who
believed in this initiative. Thanks to Events Services, the Malta Football
Awards are now part of the local sports calendar.
The
organisers announced that Event Services have renewed the agreement with
General Soft Drinks thanks to which the company is sponsoring another award
through Coke Zero. In the Coke Zero Best Support Award, which was launched over
a month ago, local fans are invited to visit the website www.cokezero.com.mt and upload photos and videos of their support. The
response was very good so far with submissions from fans of most Premier League
clubs and also from supporters of First and Second Division clubs.
A jury
for the Coke Zero Best Support Award was formed a few weeks ago and the panel
is already submitting its votes. These will be added to the votes by the
general public who could vote by SMS on 50614914.
The awards for the seventh edition of the Melita Digital Malta Football Awards
are therefore; Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Best Midfielder, Best Striker, Most Promising Youngster, Best Coach, Best Foreign Player, Best Local Player, Best Goal of the Season, Best Women's League Player, Best Futsal First Division Player, Best Onvol GFA First Division Player, Best First Division Player Best Second Division Player, Special Award for Career Special Award for Career Coke Zero, Best Support, Best Veteran Player (aged 36 and over).

League clubs and over 45 journalists who followed the BOV Premier League
2007/08. However voting for the best players in the Futsal League, Women's
League, First and Second Division and the GFA Onvol First Division was reserved
for officials and players from the respective clubs.
