A number of Maltese youth coaches
attended a practical session conducted by the two visiting senior officials
from Arsenal FC’s Community Department, Paul Shipwright and Martin Davis. Organised
by Arsenal Supporters Club and with the support of Emirates, the aim was to
give local coaches a brief insight on the training system at Arsenal Soccer
Schools.
Martin Davis conducted the
training session with a group of players from Hamrun Spartans FC YN while Paul
Shipwright gave a thorough explanation on each exercise and technique. The session was held in conjunction with
Emirates Airline Young Footballer Challenge 2008 (EYFC) at Victor Tedesco
Stadium.
During the session, Paul stressed
on the importance of planning and setting the tone at the beginning of each
training session. “It is essential to create an enjoyable and interesting
session for the young footballers in order to develop and enhance their quality.”
At the end of the session Paul
said that he received good feedback from the coaches present. He said: “It was
a very good session and we hope that we have helped in giving an enjoyable
experience to both the young players and the coaches.”
“We are confident that the
practical session was beneficial to local coaches. Youth coaches play a vital
role in introducing children to football and helping them to realise their
potential,” said Peter Paul Gauci, EYFC Coordinator and Vice-President and PRO
for AMSC.
