The evaluation process for a tender call concerning the Integrated Health Information System (IHIS) at Mater Dei Hospital has been suspended after a member of the evaluation committee was suspected of leaking confidential information to interested candidates without authorization.
The suspected member of the committee, a technical consultant in the evaluation process, as well as a Malta Information Technology and Training Services (MITTS) is currently helping Police in their investigations.
The operations of the evaluation board were suspended as to not prejudice the Police investigations regarding the case. The evaluation process is in its final stages.
The Ministry for Investment, Industry and Information Technology was given the responsibility to lead the committee of technical evaluation for the tender call. The committee is made up of officials from MITTS, the Ministry of Health, Elderly and Community Care, as well as Mater Dei Hospital.
Last month the Chairman of the committee confided in Minister for Investment, Industry and Information Technology Austin Gatt that confidential information might have been illicitly leaked to applicants in the process of the tender call.
The Minister contacted Prime Minister Dr. Lawrence Gonzi about the issue and it was agreed that the Police Commissioner ought to investigate the suspicions.
As investigations proceed, the Ministry called on the board to suspend its activities until further notice.
