Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's visit to Malta in November is being described by many as a “second honeymoon” in Malta, the
latter being the place where they spent some of their happiest days as a
young couple.
The Telegraph reported that officials at Buckingham Palace would say only that it was a "private stay" at the invitiation of the Maltese government.
The holiday abroad is unusal for the royal couple who, despite being among the world's greatest travellers for duties of state, rarely take vacations ouside Britain, The Telegraph continued, while saying that it is said that they have made an exception becasue the island holds a special place in their hearts.
Meanwhile,
The Daily Express said that during Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's several periods in Malta as a young married couple, between
1949 and 1951, "the couple danced
many a night away in the sumptuous ballroom of the Hotel Meridien
Phoenicia in the capital Valletta and lived like an ordinary service
couple in a grandly-named house called the Villa Guardamangia".
The newspaperalso mentioned a curious 'road rage' incident that the Queen had in Malta, when during an encounter with a donkey-drawn cart in a narrow village lane, she was forced to backup even though she initally expected the man to budge first.
