The Malta Labour Party (MLP) believes that the Grand Harbour has the potential to serve as a hub from where cruise liners can commence and end voyages towards West and East of the Mediterranean, said leader Dr Alfred Sant on Wednesday.

Meeting members from the VISET board, managing cruise liner terminal facilities, Dr Sant also said that the harbour also has a potential in the American market.

He explained how such a development would leave a positive impact on Malta’s economy, adding that the MLP is prepared to help VISET expand its operations.

During his visit Dr Sant also spoke of the MLP regional plans for the Grand Harbour, saying that the port is one of Malta’s greatest assets.

The party leader also said that the MLP believes that there are niches to which the private sector can contribute in the Grand Harbour and that the work needed should be carried out on models that London and Sydney Harbours were based on.
