Mr Michael Falzon confirmed that he will continue to serve as Water Services Corporation (WSC) Chairman in a meeting with  Minister for Investment, Industry and Technology on Tuesday, focusing  on variation orders relating to the North Malta and Gozo sewage treatment plants contract.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the Chairman said that the Board of Director shared the Minister’s view where the variations were concerned, adding that he is prepared to continue chairing the board.

The Minister expressed his satisfaction at Mr Falzon’s explanation.

On Friday, Mr Falzon tendered his resignation after the Minister told him in a letter that it was “unacceptable” that the variations were treated in a “superficial manner by the management”.

Mr Falzon had tendered his resignation, stating that his position as Chairman was “untenable” due to the “contents and tone” on the Minister’s letter, which implied “an astounding lack of trust in the Board of Directors and in the management” that he heads.
