The
Second Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean will
be held in Malta
between the 22nd and 24th November
2007.
This occasion will mark the official opening of
the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean which will
be based in Malta
and housed at Palazzo Spinola in St. Julians. The Secretary General of the
PAM is
Mr. Sergio Piazzi.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the
Mediterranean was set up in Nafplion, Greece, in 2005
on the initiative of the Maltese
Parliamentary Delegation to the Inter--Parliamentary Union. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean will
bring together, for the first time, all
the national parliaments on the Mediterranean littoral. The
Assembly, which held its
inaugural session in Amman,
Jordan, in
September 2006, will serve as a forum
for political and economic cooperation as well as dialogue between cultures,
civilizations and religions.
The meeting in Malta will launch a strategy document entitled ‘Building on our common Mediterranean
Heritage’ that outlines, amongst other things, the strategic objectives and
priorities of the Parliamentary Assembly.
