Social policy minister Dolores Cristina presided over the swearing-in ceremony  of Prof Kenneth Wain who was appointed Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations.

The new commissioner, whose appointment was made possible by the recently enacted Voluntary organisation bill, said he was confident that he will have everybody’s support to succeed in his new challenging role.

During his three-year appointment, Professor Wain will be guiding voluntary organisations, dealing with complaints, consulting with the appeals board and working with the council which needs to be set up by law.

The law which dates back to the White Paper of 2005, regulates Malta’s many voluntary organisations  and gives them a  legal status while enabling them to gain access to EU funding.
