It-Torca told the newspaper that once parliament approves the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty possibly on Tuesday, Prime Minister Gonzi will announce an election on Wednesday.
The same sources reported that the Office of the Prime Minister contacted the Electoral Commission and that the March 8 date was verbally mentioned.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister is expected to contest the ninth district which is made up of San Ġwann, Msida, GФargФur, Ta' Xbiex and Swieqi besides the second district.
Labour Party Leader Dr Alfred Sant will also be contesting the election despite undergoing surgery late in December.
