Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has just started a top level meeting with President Eddie Fenech Adami where he is expected to ask him to dissolve Parliament in view of the coming general elections.

The Prime Minister presided over the last Cabinet meeting of this legislature earlier on Monday morning and is also expected to make a courtesy call on the Speaker, Anton Tabone. Dr Gonzi would not divulge anything related to the elections as he arrived at the Palace. His only comment was there to meet the President something which he enjoyed doing.

It is generally expected that the date of general elections is officially announced later on Monday during a press conference at 1100CET for which all Nationalist members of parliament have been asked to be present as revealed by MaltaMedia earlier on Monday.
