The nineteenth day of the electoral campaign

On the nineteenth day of the electoral campaign Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi visited  farmers and reassured those present that the Nationalist Party saw agriculture as an important sector of the economy and the environment.

19th day He said a future Nationalist administration would seek to support farmers’so that they continue to be competitive and said that the PN was the only party planning to invest €300m in the environment if elected.

Opposition and Malta Labour Party leader Dr Alfred Sant, started this campaign dayby a visit to the Malta head office of Banif Bank in Gzira.  During his visit he stressed the fact that the two major parties always agreed that the financial services industry should be allowed to grow and develop.

Dr Sant promised that a Labour government would set up a commission to map out growth for the financial services industry for the next 15 years. He said a Labour government would also offer incentives and the proper environment to encourage companies to relocate to Malta and for Maltese working abroad to transfer to Malta.

19th day He also revealed that a Labour government would not sell the remaining government stake in Bank of Valletta in the foreseeable future.

On this day, Dr Sant presented a libel against minister Ninu Zammit for accusing Dr Sant of corrupt practices.

Later in the evening, the opposition leader was hosted on television programme Xarabank during which he answered questions from the audience, from journalists and from presenter Peppi Azzopardi.  During the programme he reiterated the centrality of the family and quality of living to the MLP's electoral campaign.

Speaking during a visit at Megabyte at the Mosta Technopark, Chairperson of Alternattiva Demokratika, Dr Harry Vassallo, said that the “Made in Malta” name is something to be proud of and the government ought to give local investors the same incentives and importance it has been giving to foreign investors.
