Dr Gonzi Fgura walkaboutThe Prime Minister on Monday met the business community and shoppers in Fgura during a walkabout. Dr Gonzi said the gainfully occupied population had reached a record 169,000 under his government and the people had more money in their pocket.

He also said that the proposals the Nationalist Party is putting forward for small businesses would give better results than the cuts on surcharge that the Labour Party is proposing.

Dr Gonzi also pointed out that the fees for trading licences.had been significantly reduced in 2007.  

Opposition Leader and Leader of the Malta Labour Party Dr Alfred Sant, started his twenty-second day of campaigning with a press conference during which he stated that tourism sector needed a fundamental change. Policies need to be updated so that tourism can start reaching its full potential.

Dr Sant press conferenceDr Sant reiterated Labour’s pledges to raise GDP growth to 4-6 % in real terms and raise the number of tourists visiting Malta to 1.6 million.

He said that in the past few years the economy had stagnated and despite government claims that current growth was of 4.3%, that was not being believed.

Dr Harry Vassallo reported that his residence had been damaged when a glass pane was broken following the PN mass meeting in Sliema on Sunday. Alternattiva Demokratika has condemned the incident.

In  a statement on Monday, the Electoral Commission said that eligible voters who have not yet received their voting document for the general election and the local councils elections may call personally at their local police station to collect their voting document by showing their identity card from Wednesday 27th  February to Saturday 1st March.

In the meantime, timesofmalta.com reported that around 29,000 voting documents for the general election were still undelivered up to Saturday evening when distribution ended.
