The Broadcasting Authority (BA) has rescheduled an interview with Opposition Leader and Leader of the Malta Labour Party, Dr Alfred Sant, after the latter walked out of the conference on Monday morning.  The interview will now be held on Tuesday.

Dr Sant objected to the presence of Dr Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando who attended as a representative of Media.link Communications and insisted that he had every right to face the Opposition leader and was not going to move from there - even when officials from the Broadcasting Authority asked him to leave.

The face-off continued in the presence of the Chairman of the Broadcasting Authority, Mr Joseph Scicluna, and PN Secreatry General Mr Joe Saliba who stated that Dr Pullicino Orlando had a right to be there and that his presence was sanctioned by the Nationalist party.

Emotions ran high with a frustrated Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando asking Dr Sant why he was scared to face him after tarnishing his reputation on Saturday and the following days.

In a statement released later on One television, Dr Sant said that this was just an attempt at provocation by the Nationalist party.

The BA said that among the conditions for political broadcasts which had been sent to the political parties and all parties concerned, candidates contesting elections could not be present for such debates.

Following this incident the Institute of Maltese Journalists issued a statement saying that the journalistic profession was being parodied and disrespected by the issue of a press card to a candidate contesting general elections.
