Lawrence Gonzi sworn in as Prime Minister of Malta

Nationalist Party Leader, Dr Lawrence Gonzi has been sworn in as Prime Minister on Wednesday afternoon.  The official formal ceremony took place at the President’s Palace in Valletta and the Prime Minister was accompanied by all his family.

PM Gonzi sworn in Dr Gonzi said that this was the moment in which he shouldered all the responsibility entailed in the Office of Prime Minister and said that he will be Prime Minister for all the Maltese Nation. He also said that our country has lots to be proud of and that a beautiful adventure lay ahead of the Maltese nation from now onwards.

Finally Dr Gonzi thanked all his family for their constant support during the election campaign and pledged that he will use "every drop of my energy" for the benefit of the Maltese people.

President Edward Fenech Adami congratulated Dr Gonzi and said that he had no doubts that Dr Gonzi will be a Prime Minister to all the Maltese.

In the meantime, the Nationalist Party has been consented four extra parliamentary seats so as it can have a majority in parliament as is constitutionally required.

The seats have been granted to Jean Pierre Farrugia, elected from the first district by 3426 votes, Edwin Vassallo from the 11th district with 3,301 votes, Frans Agius from the second district with 3,295 and Francis Zammit Dimech from the tenth District with 3,197 votes.

Dr Gonzi is expected to announce the new Cabinet’s members on Wednesday.
