On Thursday afternoon, the president of the Malta Labour Party was presented with a petition calling for statute amendments which would permit all paid-up members to vote in the coming MLP leadership elections.

If these amendments are effected it would imply that around 19,000 paid-up party members would be eligible to vote.

Dr Zrinzo Azzopardi told those present that there shall be no procrastination to discuss the petition which has been signed by 122 people, which amounts to more than 10% of the total number of delegates needed for an extraordinary general conference to be convened.

New Labour MP Marlene Pullicino handed the petition to Dr Zrinzo who said that she favoured wider participation in the party.
