The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) has ordered lecturing staff at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) to strike for two hours on Wednesday 30th April. This follows failed discussions during a meeting to discuss a new collective agreement.

The union described the proposed revisions by MCAST as "unacceptable". Lecturing staff at Mcast are to strike between 08:00CET and 10:00CET on Wednesday.

In a counter-statement, MCAST said that it is very surprised at the MUT’s directive. The agreement as proposed by MCAST has actually been negotiated thoroughly with the MUT delegation and agreement had been reached on practically all issues, MCAST said.

MCAST recommended to the MUT to continue to negotiate round the table where agreement will be reached rather than taking industrial action that will negatively affect students.
