After consulting with all the members of the Malta Labour Party’s (MLP) administration, MLP acting leader Charles Mangion on Wednesday evening denied that any member of the party administration had proposed Dr George Abela not to contest the leadership election promising that he would instead by proposed by the party itself for President of Malta.

Dr Abela made this claim during the programme Dissett on PBS on Tuesday evening. Dr Abela’s claim was also reported in Wednesday’s newspapers.

Dr Mangion stated that the MLP President Dr Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi had consulted all the members of the party administration and confirmed that no one had made such a proposal to Dr Abela.

Dr George Abela is one of the candidates for the MLP leadership together with Evarist Bartolo, Joseph Muscat, Michael Falzon and Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
