The Ministry for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications said in a press release on Saturday that the Malta Shipyard's Fairmount contracts are being verified.

The statement comes in reply to the General Worker’s Union claims that the yards were about to lose €46.59 million over two years in a major ship conversion contract.

The Ministry clarified that in a letter to the Malta Shipyards Board of Directors on December 18, 2007, Minister Austin Gatt had called on the Board to investigate what led the Shipyards to find itself in a position that “was contractually and legally at a disadvantage.”

Auditors PriceWaterHouse Coopers are carrying out a study which is in an advanced stage, the DOI statement reported.
