The PN general council that was convened Sunday Morning confirmed Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi as leader of the Nationalist Party and Tonio Borg as deputy leader.

In his speech, Dr Gonzi appealed to the opposition to cooperate with the government with a view to open a fresh chapter in the island's politics. He augured that under a new leader, the MLP will be more collaborative and less negative.

The Prime Minister said that the government's is willing to wait until the opposition completes the changes it is going through before opening talks on how to involve the opposition in government initiatives.

To facilitate this process, Dr Gonzi said that a decision was taken for Parliament to be summoned on the last date possible after the elections.

The  government was also willing to wait for the opposition's final decision on the issue of a speaker for parliament.
