On Friday evening, the executive committee of the Nationalist Party voted to elect a new administration to lead the party in the coming years.

Valletta mayor Dr Paul Borg Olivier was selected for the most significant of these administrative posts. He will be taking up the position held by Joe Saliba for the last nine years.  The post was also contested by Nationalist MP Charlo’ Bonnici, who received 18 out of the 59 votes cast by the PN executive council.

Marthese Portelli was elected as the new president of the PN executive committee. Karol Aquilina and Malcolm Mifsud were the other contestants for this post.

As sole contender for the post of President of the Administrative Council, Pierre Portelli has been elected to this role. Treasurer Peter Darmanin, International Secretary John Bonello, and Assistant General Secretary Jean Pierre Debono will resume their roles on the executive committee.

On Thursday, the Malta Labour Party announced that it will be holding its elections for the administration of the party in August.
