MLP announces major changes in shadow cabinet

The Malta Labour Party (MLP) announced major changes in the Shadow Cabinet by its leader Dr Joseph Muscat.

Upon taking his seat in Parliament, Dr Joseph Muscat as Leader of the Opposition will shadow the Office of the Prime Minister which includes the coordination of planning and priorities, internal audit and investigations and internal coordination on the European Union.

Amongst other changes, Anglu Farrugia who was formerly spokesperson for justice, is now deputy leader for parliamentary affairs and spokesperson on employment and workers rights. This includes the ETC, industrial relations, health and safety issues at the workplace, living standards and cooperatives.

Former MLP deputy leader for party affairs Michael Falzon has taken over internal affairs and security including immigration, airport security, corrective services, civil protection and the managing of national identification (public registry, land registry, civil registration, I.D. Cards and Passports).

Charles Mangion who is currently the Opposition Leader, remains the spokesperson on finance and chairperson of the Public Finance Committee. This also includes Budget Office, Treasury, internal income, indirect taxes, customs, contracts, Central Bank relations, Malta Standards Authority (MSA), lands, Joint Office and the Government Notary.

Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca moved from social policy to spokesperson on tourism and the AirMalta. Mr Evarist Bartolo returned to be spokesperson for education and the media including childcare and early education, obligatory education, higher education, examinations, library and archives and the Public Broadcasting Services (PBS).
