The 2009 Pre-Budget Consultation Document entitled “Together for a Sustainable Future” was launched on Saturday morning by the Prime Minister Dr Lawrence Gonzi and Finance Minister Tonio Fenech.

This is the fourth time that the Government has launched a pre-budget document.

This document includes a number of proposals resulting from the consultation process that ended a few days ago, and will give way to consultation between Government and all those interested in preparation of Budget 2009.

The priorities for the Government highlighted in the document are the social aspect, education, environment, investment in health, job creation, the regeneration of the environment and the localities, Gozo and the ICT strategy for the coming years.

When asked with regards tax cuts in the forthcoming budget, Dr Gonzi said it was premature to make a commitment about tax cuts. This is due to the fact that oil price has risen 45% since the election.

The pre-budget document is available for download on www.budget2009.com.mt.
