The Electoral Commission has notified all non-Maltese nationals who are citizens of the EU and who are residing in Malta that they have the choice to vote either in Malta or in their home country in the Election for Members of the European Parliament to be held in June, 2009.  However, those wishing to vote in Malta for candidates contesting the election in Malta, would consequently have their names deleted from the electoral roll in their respective country.

Non-Maltese EU nationals who wish to vote in Malta and who have the necessary qualifications in terms of the European Parliament Election Act of 2003 must call personally to complete a specific form at the Office of the Electoral Commission, Evans Buildings, St. Elmo Place, Valletta or at the I.D. Section, 28A, St. Francis Square, Rabat, Gozo during office hours.

Applicants must present their valid passport/s, if any, Maltese I.D. Card, if any, and national identification document of their country upon application.

The Electoral Commission further notified Maltese nationals residing in any Member State who are not registered in the General Election Electoral Register and who wish to vote for candidates contesting the election in Malta that they also need to apply.

Receipt of registration starts on 1st October, 2008, and the closing date is 31st March, 2009.

Further information and the requisite form may be found on the website www.electoral.gov.mt
