New Commissioner for Children appointed

Carmen Zammit was officially appointed as new Commissioner for Children on Tuesday, after being chosen to fill the post  last week.

Prime Minister appoints Carmen Zammit as Commissioner for ChildrenSpeaking of her new role, Carmen Zammit pledged to do her best to when carrying out her duties. On his part, Prime Minister Dr. Lawrence Gonzi who appointed Carmen Zammit as Commissioner; praised her extensive work carried out in the social sector.

Carmen Zammit was chosen as the new Commissioner for Children on Tuesday following consultation between the Ministry for the Family and Social Solidarity and the Social Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives .

She succeeds former Commissioner for Children  Sonia Camilleri whose three year-term ended in December 2006. Sonia Camilleri had announced last month that she did not wish to serve a second term in the office.
