The seasons for finch trapping and the shooting of ducks from sea craft will not open after Minister for Rural Affairs and the Environment George Pullicino backed the Ornis Committee’s recommendations submitted on Thursday.

In a statement issued on Friday evening, Minister George Pullicino said he backed the Ornis’ recommendations after examining the justifications the committee presented to prohibit the practices this spring.

The Committee's decision on Thursday was not well received by the Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FKNK). The Federation had proposed trapping for seven songbird species for a month starting from March. It had also called for hunting at sea for ducks and geese for 15 days during March.

In turn, turtle dove and quail trappers will be able to practice their pastime between the 26th March and the 20th May.
