On Saturday, the Malta Labour Party (MLP) presented the final versions of its self-employed, agriculture, fishing, rural development and cooperatives draft policies.

hairdressingThe MLP self-employed policy is promising it would allocate sites for the self-employed to establish their businesses and enterprises.   These would be assigned on lease basis and could be used as a guarantee for banks to finance the business.

All estates in Malta and Gozo would be organised on an equivalent system to condominiums with the aim of maintaining them in good state.   “The venture capital allocated will be a substantial one and the government will truly participate in those enterprises which are promising,” Dr Sant said.

A Labour government will reduce bureaucracy and taxes, enhance efficiency while seeing that decisions are taken within a short period.   Women’s participation will be encouraged.   Self-employed women will have the same social benefits (sick leave, maternity leave) as other employed women.

With regards to the cooperative draft policy, the MLP is proposing that the government sets up a directorate within the civil service.   The latter would be responsible for the promotion, setting up and support of cooperatives within the public service.   The Maltese will also be educated and informed about cooperatives, Dr Sant said.

The MLP will promote the setting up of cooperatives which provide services for children and the elderly within the community.

Scientific date, through statistics, about cooperatives will also be kept.

Meanwhile, the agriculture, fishing and rural development policy assures the quality of local agricultural products.   A Labour government will make sure that marketing is continuous and effective and it will also give incentives to help develop agritourism.

The MLP will also set up a unit so as to address the problems of farmers and fishermen so as to sustain them in their career.
