The Maltese government is in continuous effort to secure the release of George Scerri, the Maltese oil worker, who was kidnapped in Nigeria on Friday.
As messages of solidarity with Scerri’s family started pouring in from official organisations and the Maltese community all over the world, the Foreign Ministry said it has established contacts with Scerri’s family and is seeking the help and expertise of Italy and Britain. Messages of solidarity were published by both the Malta labour Party and the Nationalist Party.
George Scerri was kidnapped by unknown gunmen together with another worker, a Pakistani, in the quiet southern delta region. Both workers were working for Lonestar Drilling and at the time of the kidnapping they were driving towards an oil rig in Omoku.
It was then that gunmen hijacked their car and the two workers were kidnapped.
