AD welcomes MCESD strategy on cost of living

Alternattiva Demokratika – the green party, has welcomed the fact that the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development agreed to draw up proposals on how the government could ease the burden on families caused by the water and electricity surcharge and the general increase in prices.

AD Chairperson Arnold Cassola said that the tackling of the increased cost of living is one of Alternattiva Demokratika's priorities.

PM Gonzi replies to MLP leader's letter

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has said that he is willing to discuss any subject which enhances democracy in Malta such as the right to vote of those Maltese living abroad.

He stated this in reply to Dr Joseph Muscat’s letter sent to him on Monday outlining a number of proposals aimed at strengthening democracy.

MLP propose discussions in the name of democracy

Malta Labour Party leader Joseph Muscat has written to the Prime Minister proposing a number of initiatives with the aim of strengthening democracy.

The letter states that “despite the government’s attitude towards the opposition and several social partners, the MLP was ready, in the national interest, to embark on measures to strengthen democracy.”

No 'condoms' in national sex health policy draft

Practically every mention of condoms in the second draft of the National Sexual Health Policy has been removed, The Malta Independent on Sunday reported.

Consultant in Genito-Urinary (GU) medicine Philip Carabot said a National Sexual Health Policy was first urgently requested by the government in 1999 in order to be in line with EU suggestions before membership. A multi-disciplinary committee had been set up and a wide-ranging sexual health policy was drafted. This was subsequently rejected and a re-write was ordered.

Consultation on Local Government reform continues

The official Website Kunsilli Lokali 2015 together with a freephone as part of the consultation process for the reform of Local Government were launched on Saturday by the Hon. Chris Said, Parliamentary Secretary for Public Dialogue and Information.

This consultation process had originally been initiated by the Prime Minister on the 23rd May and will continue for six months until the end of November.

MLP announces major changes in shadow cabinet

The Malta Labour Party (MLP) announced major changes in the Shadow Cabinet by its leader Dr Joseph Muscat.

Upon taking his seat in Parliament, Dr Joseph Muscat as Leader of the Opposition will shadow the Office of the Prime Minister which includes the coordination of planning and priorities, internal audit and investigations and internal coordination on the European Union.
