Sunday marred by two fatalities

Sunday has been marred by two fatalities. A young man died following a traffic accident in Burmarrad Road on Sunday at around 1545 CET.

Police preliminary investigations revealed that a 32-year-old man from Qawra who was driving a Kawazaki motorcycle collided into a Toyota driven by a 37-year-old woman from Guardamangia.

The motorcyclist died on site.

The 37-year-old woman and a car passenger were not injured but were treated in hospital since they were under shock.

Due to police investigations, the road leading to Burmarrad was temporarily closed.

Meanwhile a 62-year-old foreigner tragically lost his life while diving in Anchor Bay, Mellieha on Sunday.

The police were informed that a person was in difficulty at around 1450 CET.

The diver lost consciousness when he was swimming back towards shore. A few moments earlier, he had surfaced because his oxygen supply had nearly finished. 

An ambulance was called on site. The foreigner was certified dead later. 

Magistrate J.Padovani Grima was informed of both fatalities.
