Mother of abandoned newborn found

In a statement, the Police communicated that the mother of the newborn baby boy found earlier on Sunday abandoned in a shoe box was found.

At around 15:30CET on Sunday afternoon, the Police had been informed that there was an abandoned baby in a shoe box in Guliermu Street, Bormla.

The Police went immediately at the indicated place and found a baby boy still covered in blood indicating it had been born only a few hours before. The baby was rushed to St Luke’s Hospital for the necessary treatment.

Duty Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera was informed of the case and a magisterial inquiry was opened.

Further police investigations are under way.

The Police appealed for anyone from the public who can provide any type of information is kindly requested to do so confidentially on number 119.
