Two men tragically
lost their lives in separate accidents which took place in
Marsascala and Marsalforn, Gozo on
Wednesday. In turn, the lifeless
body of a 33-year-old man was discovered in Wied il-Kbir, limits of Ħandaq, in
Qormi.
In the first case, just before 1100CET,
a 56-year-old Enemalta
Corporation employee
died
after falling off a ladder while carrying out works in Triq il-Blajjiet,
Marsascala just before 1100CET.
In a statement Police said the man from
Safi was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital by
ambulance where he was certified dead shortly afterwards.
Duty Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera was informed of the case and
appointed various experts to assist in an inquiry.
The Corporation expressed its condolences with
the family and relatives of the victim.
In its statement,
Enemalta also announced that it launched separate investigations
to establish what caused the accident.
In turn, later during the afternoon a
foreign
man
drowned at
Marsalforn
Bay,
Gozo soon after diving into the sea, reported Radio 101 News. It was reported that the man was most likely African.
Another man on location attempted to rescue the man from the waters however his
efforts were fruitless.
The victim was lifted from the sea by Members of the Civil Protection
Department.
Gozitan Police are investigating the case. Investigations are being led by Inspector
Josric Mifsud.
On the other hand, the lifeless body of a 33-year-old man was discovered in
Wied il-Kbir, limits of Ħandaq, in Qormi. In a statement Police
said they were informed of the case at around 1215CET. One News said that the
man died of a heroin overdose, adding that traces of the drug and drug-related
objects were found on location. One News added that the man was the third
person to die of an overdose in the recent days.
An autopsy on the Qormi man's body is expected to be carried out on
Thursday.
Three other persons have been discovered
dead in the recent days. On Monday a dead man was found dead in Ta'
Giorni Street, Ta'
Giorni. Additionally, last week a further two persons were discovered dead, one
in
an
apartment in
Raħal Ġdid and another in a valley in Għargħur.
