Inside one of the garages belonging to the van’s owner who is a Bugibba resident, 1523 cardboard boxes each containing 200 cigarettes together with 3,408 tobacco packets were found.

103 bottles of 1 litre of alcohol were also discovered. It appears no tax had been paid on all the cigarettes and spirits retrieved. This means a tax evasion of around LM18,000. The van and all the goods were confiscated by the Customs officials.

Police investigations continue.
