Man injured in shooting; corpse found

A 19-year old was seriously injured when he was shot by a firearm in Zurrieq at about 04:45 CEST on Sunday morning.

Police preliminary investigations revealed that the incident started when an unknown vehicle collided into the 19-year-old's Isuzu and did not stop. The two cars drove after each other for some time.When the two vehicles arrived at Blue Grotto Avenue in Zurrieq, some shots were fired from the unknown vehicle towards the Isuzu.

The 19-year-old was consequently seriously injured. The youth was rushed to St Luke's Hospital but was not in danger of dying.

Duty Magistrate Dr C.Scerri Herrera was informed about the case and appointed various experts to help her in the inquiry.

Later on Sunday at around 13:15CEST, the police was informed that a corpse was found in a field in Zurrieq in the Hlantun area. The Police said in a statement that a 29-year-old man was found dead probably shot by a firearm that was found in the same field. It resulted that the man was the same person that was involved in the shooting incident earlier on Sunday.

Doctor Mario Scerri, one of the experts appointed earlier to assist in the inquiry certified the man as dead.

Further Police investigations are underway.
