More arrivals of illegal immigrants are to be expected in Malta according to Captains at the port of Palermo in Sicily. Italian fishermen sailing the waters between Malta and Libya witnessed four boatloads of illegal immigrants headed towards the island.

One of the boats is likely to have arrived in Malta already. It was reported to have been carrying around 30 persons, including women, and on Friday it was located around 70 miles south of Lampedusa, on its way to Malta, reported Avvenire.

Twenty eight illegal immigrants were brought in at Haywharf by the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) at around 0300CEST on Saturday.  The group consisted of 20 men, five woman and three children.

Further police investigations are under way.

Between Thursday evening and Friday morning 58 illegal immigrants arrived in Malta on two separate boatloads of 29 each.
