At around 14:00CET, the police were informed of a fire that had broken out in a building formerly used as a soap factory in the Ricasoli Industrial Estate. It is still unknown what caused the fire.

A nearby workshop was damaged due to the fire. However, the persons inside the workshop were immediately evacuated from the building. No one was injured in this incident.

Members from the Civil Protection Department went on site and controlled the situation which was hindered by the strong winds. Members from the Mobile Squad and traffic police controlled the traffic.

Also present on site were EneMalta workers to stop the electricity supply in the area if deemed necessary in order to avoid any tragedies.

Police investigations are under way to establish the cause of the fire.
