Police are investigating a report by two Italian tourists who are alleging that they were brutally beaten by four nightclub bouncers in Paceville last Friday, reported In-Nazzjon.

The alleged victims, a 20-year-old man and his 27-year-old brother told the newspaper that they were attacked at around 0200CEST when the younger sibling left Havana nightclub with a glass in hand. The younger man, who emerged from the beating with a broken leg and ligaments torn from his knees, said he was beaten because he accidentally carried a glass with him outside of the premises, while on his way to meet his brother who was waiting for him at the door.

The elder brother sprung to his younger sibling’s defence however he got caught up in the brawl and received numerous kicks and punches.

The two managed to flee and hide in a food establishment nearby however; the bouncers tracked them down and chased them to the village’s square where they continued to beat them. It was at this point that the 20-year-old man's leg was broken.

The men were rushed to St Luke’s Hospital where they were treated for their injuries.

The Italians reported the incident to the Police on Saturday morning and have since left Malta.

In-Nazzjon further reported that Havana has the recorded the incidents and it is not excluded that Police will be viewing the tapes in criminal proceedings they are expected to initiate against the bouncers.

This is the second reported case of violence exerted on tourists this year.

In May Police Sergeant David Sant from Sliema was granted provisional liberty against a personal guarantee of Lm200 injuring French tourist Catherine Sophie Pernot Sprangers after kicking her.
