255 cartons of contraband soft drinks were discovered by Customs officials during a routine check last week.

Customs officials were helping in the unloading of a container which was declared to be carrying three vehicles originating from the United Kingdom. The container was opened in the presence of the importer. Besides the three vehicles, contraband soft drinks of the brand Dr Pepper were found. Each carton contained twenty-four 330ml cans.

Since the importation of the soft drinks was not covered by an importation license, Customs seized the 6,120 cans.

The Malta Authority for Planning and Environment (MEPA) was informed of the case, Customs said in a statement.
