The police have arrested five foreigners and seized 6kg of cocaine worth €1.1 million. Following the haul, four suspects have been arraigned and the fifth is to be taken to court shortly.

This was revealed during a joint press conference between the Malta Customs Department and the Drug squad who declared that this has been a victory against an international drugs ring.

On Friday, the police and Customs officers at the Malta International Airport,  stopped and searched two 19-year-old Estonian men upon their arrival from Tripoli. The men were found to be in possession of four packets containing 1.5kg of cocaine each, hidden in a false bottom in their suitcase.

Investigations revealed that the consignment was destined for two Nigerians resident in Malta, both arrested on Saturday night. Another man of Nigerian citizenship was arrested upon arrival in Malta from Brussels on Sunday.

Police believe that some of the cocaine was to have been trafficked in Malta but the rest was probably intended for Estonia.
