On Wednesday, Anthony Seychell was handed a 12 year imprisonment sentence after being found guilty of cultivating and possessing cannabis.

Seychell, 47, of Zejtun was also fined €25,000 after jurors unanimously found him guilty of having cultivated cannabis at his residence where over a 100 cannabis plants had been found.

At first the man had tried to justify the plants by saying that he needed the cannabis because of back pains and was pleading not guilty.  He however admitted the charges later on in the trial.

The trial was presided by Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono.
