Kevin Fenech, a young police constable was acquitted on Tuesday of the involuntary homicide of his uncle, Angelo Seychell. The incident goes back to September 2006 when the 24-year-old was together with the victim in a field near Zejtun.

Since they were hunting, the men had shotguns with them. A radio aerial from Mr Fenech’s pocket got accidentally hit the trigger of Fenech’s loaded shotgun and a shot was fired.

In a separate case, Nazzareno Muscat, 39 of Zejtun, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to traffic cannabis and possession of cannabis, just as his trial was about to begin.

The trial goes on for another defendant, Clayton Galea, 24, of Hamrun, who is pleading not guilty.

The trial is being presided by Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono.
