The committee members of the Peace Band Club of Naxxar were granted bail on Monday morning following the discovery of fireworks in a basement of their club on Saturday. The men pleaded not guilty to charges of importation and possession of explosive material, illegal storage of dangerous material and lack of observance of regulations on clubs.

They were granted bail on a personal guarantee of €5,000 each and deposit of €250 each.

The defence lawyers argued that the men are all good family people with a clean police record and there was no reason for them to be remanded in custody.

In the meantime the club has been closed and the man responsible for the administration of the club is being arraigned separately.
