Two men from Zebbug have been granted bail after being accused in court with importing and storing fireworks illegally. Bail was granted against a personal guarantee of €2,000 and a deposit of €2,000 each.

The men are 61-year-old Joseph Calleja from St Paul's Bay, and Carmel Falzon, 49 of Zebbug, and both pleaded not guilty to storing the fireworks illegally in a residence  at Triq Is-Sindku P Vella, Zebbug.

The prosecution said that the fireworks were stored at Falzon’s house and that the amount found was considerable, about a van full. Both men had licences to manufacture fireworks but the licences are not permits for storage, the prosecution argued.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti presided over the proceedings.
