AFM evacuate immigrant children and mother

At 1030CET, the AFM’s rescue helicopter was engaged in the urgent medical evacuation of a very young baby girl. The evacuation was requested by the Italian Coast Guard who had earlier on rescued some 20 illegal immigrants from Maltese waters, the AFM said in a statement.
Italian Air Force AB212 rescue helicopter of the Italian Military Mission based in Malta was dispatched with an Italo-Maltese flight crew. AFM medical officer, Surgeon Lieutenant Colonel Robert Galea and AFM Air Wing rescuer Derek Pepe provided necessary treatment as required to both mother and two children which were brough onboard the rescue-helicopter.
The helicopter landed at Mater Dei Hospital at 1220CET.
In the meantime, the CAP904 Fiorillo of the Italian Coast Guard is approaching still Maltese waters and expected to make port at Haywharf Base at 1515CET.
